Commissioners name Port Authority reps
Glacier Reporter, July 6, 2006

The June 28 Browning meeting of the Glacier County Commission addressed the issue of naming three people to the Glacier County Regional Port Authority, the county's contribution to the economic body created last March. Glacier's three reps will join three more each to be named by the towns of Browning and Cut Bank. Each member of the group will have a staggered term to be chosen by lot.

The county representative from each district chose a person from his district to serve, said Commissioner John Ray. They were selected from a pool of volunteers solicited by the county commissioners in advertising and direct personal communications. Ray Salois named Jasen Bronec of Cut Bank from his first district; John Ray chose Tony Sitzman of East Glacier Park to represent district two, and Mike DesRosier's choice was Virgil “Puggy” Edwards of Browning for the third district.

“Once the board is appointed, they're the ones who will structure the elections and decide how they're put together,” said DesRosier. “The Port Authority is a means for economic development,” he said. “And they can apply for more grants,” added John Ray.

State Rep. Carol Juneau expressed hope at the meeting that the towns of Browning and Cut Bank would include at least one woman each to the board of the Port Authority. She noted that some boards at the state level require equal party representation, and that most boards require equal representation in gender and race as well.
