“The concept of a community development corporation came about two years ago, when a group of community members took the steps to create Browning Community Development Corporation (BCDC) to address their concerns about the social and economic progress in the community,” said Barcus. BCDC, a private, nonprofit community development corporation, was created for community members to make a difference based on John F. Kennedy's ideal of “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” Instead of waiting for the government to create a climate of social and economic change, the community, through a community development corporation, can make a greater and longer-lasting impact in the community.
The BCDC meets monthly, and community members are welcome to attend the meetings, held the third Wednesday of every month at Browning City Hall from noon-2 p.m. Become involved in the community for you and your family's social and economic improvement. The next meeting will be held April 19.
