The Browning Community Development Corporation (BCDC) is a private, nonprofit organization created to foster social and economic improvements in the community of Browning and surrounding area. BCDC recognizes that without social improvements, economics cannot develop. BCDC is about providing community members opportunities to become involved in their communities and to foster economic development in their communities.
The concept of a community development corporation came about as an opportunity for the regular citizen to make a difference, based on John F. Kennedy's ideal of, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” Instead of waiting for governments, be it tribal or federal, to create a climate of social and economic change, the community, through the corporation, can make a greater, longer lasting impact in the area.
What kind of community would you like to live in? What kind of community would you like to see your children or grandchildren to grow up in? These are the questions that people need to ask themselves. The federal government, the state of Montana or even the Blackfeet Tribal Business Council cannot provide the answers. The community members can be the driving force in make positive changes needed in their communities. The Browning Community Development Corporation can assist in focusing the community to make positive changes the community wants.
Community members are welcome to attend BCDC meetings, which are held every third Wednesday of every month at Browning City Hall from 12 to 2 p.m. Become involved in the community for you and your family's social and economic improvement. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, April 19. Contact Johnel Barcus at 338-4015 or email johnelh@3rivers.net if you have any questions or to become involved.
